Q & A on Distance limitations with 10Base-T wiring

Q: I haven't finish to read your book, but I have a question about the Ethernet cabling System. I have a project, but my client tell me that the distance of the Ethernet cabling can work to 180 meters, the standard tell me that the max. Distance is 100 meter, but my client teach me with the mathematic computation that distance work's, the mathematic computation that give me, involve the resistance of the cable, the attenuation, the capacitance, the cross talk, and all the parameter of the cable meditions, can you tell me how to do the mathematics process so I can learn it.

A: Vendors recommend a 90 to 100m limit on 10Base-T wiring using Category 5 wire. You are correct that there are *many* factors involved, including the resistance, signal-to-noise ratio, etc that make the distance for a particular connection shorter or longer. However, there is no simple formula that can tell you whether a longer cable will work.
